In the middle of the desert, surrounded by golden-brown sand and dry shrubs, lies a group of abandoned, dilapidated buildings of a former Jordanian military base. These structures always fascinated me when driving by but somehow I was never aware of the fact that I could visit them.
Last weekend my partner and I went to the Dead Sea for a short vacation. On our way back, he spontaneously asked me if I would like to see the paintings in “those old buildings near Kalia Beach” (at the northern end of the Dead Sea). Of course I did! I hadn’t even known about this project.
We spent over an hour there, wandering through and around the buildings and exploring them, totally fascinated. The project was established in 2018 to raise awareness for the drying out of the Dead Sea. Artists from all over the world took part in it.
