Yuck! Seven billion wobbly tofu brains on our beautiful blue planet …no wonder it’s such an amorphous mess!
“Humans have more brain cells at the age of two than at any other time of their lives.”
(Again, that explains everything…)

“The human brain is the largest and most powerful sex organ.”
(Says who… a man or a woman?)
“Men have a sexual pursuit area that is 2.5 times larger than in the female brain.”
(But the brain itself has about the same size in both male and female, interesting…
If you’d like to find out more about the differences between the two: http://www.doctorhugo.org/brain4.html)
“Ancient people thought that other organs, including the stomach and the heart, were more important than the brain…”
(I know some “modern” people who still think that… for those individuals it’s probably true…)
“Humans grow faster at night than they do during the day…”
(I should have known that 40 years ago…)
“A mother’s illness may severely affect fetal brain cells; studies suggest that influenza or malnutrition during pregnancy may be associated with the development of schizophrenia. Damage to developing cells may also occur from maternal smoking and drinking, prenatal exposure to chemicals, or excess heat.”
(No smart comment here… I did my best.)
“Chronic exposure to stress … kills brain cells.”
(Seriously, stress is very harmful not only to the brain. So find ways to take life easy and chances are you’ll live longer [and definitely happier].)
Here are more interesting brain facts:
and we are “ugly bags of mostly water….” you’d have to be a trekkie to know this quote~

I’m not a trekkie but the quote is great.

Thanks for your likes and your decision to follow Tubularsock. I will need more time to read your work but I like what I have read so far.
When dealing with the brain there is a lot of shit to take into consideration least of all Tofu. Add a little sake and things become clearer!

Comically serious! I am tempted to comment 🙂 A brain’s size is overestimated by the owner and underestimated by others.

Yes those intoxicating beverages can diminish what brain cells are still left. Now a days I prefer setting suns or the sounds of the ocean to fancy drinks with umbrellas 🙂

Thats really interesting that our brain cell peak is at two! Great photo by the way.

Thanks for the compliment; the photo was taken about 15 years ago… Regarding the brain cell peak at two – after checking other sources I found that this is not 100% precise. In the hippocampus, the region of the brain associated with memories, learning, and emotions, new cells are created even into old age. We never stop learning…:-)

Interesting stuff. My father started drinking at the age of 10. He died at the age of 67. He was an alcoholic all of those years. It was amazing that liver cancer was not his cause of death. Anyhoo, he has a PET and MRI and CAT scan before he died. He had lost more than 1/3 of his brain. It was dead. Dead matter. Thanks to booze.

Wow, I’m shocked – 1/3 of the brain dead matter – I had no idea that alcohol could be that destructive to the brain cells. I too thought the first organ to get hit by booze would be the liver. I also had a drinking problem from about age 16-17. Only 3 or 4 years ago I suddenly no longer needed this “crutch”. And my father too had a withdrawal treatment; he has’nt touched a drop for the last 20 years or so (he’s 75).

I wish my father would have stopped drinking but it never happened. Me — I do not drink. It disgusts me. My boys have yet to try a drink – like wine at Passover. They saw first hand what alcohol can do to a person and how it effects others.

Keep on researching. I remember I read or heard something years ago that up to the age of 20 or 21 the body can repair itself from the damage caused harmful drugs such as alcohol and nicotine. If that is indeed the case then you should be able to find at documented somewhere.

Thanks Ben. My son has been smoking on and off and hopefully he’ll succeed in quitting this time. (I quit smoking about ten years ago and since then I haven’t once had the desire for a smoke.)

Isn’t it what we *we* with our brain that matters most?

Absolutely, WE are nothing without our brain and it is phenomenal, for better or for worse. And there is no doubt that this super machine has created lots of good and bad in the world. I think it’s all a question of quantity; the potential of 7=SEVEN BILLION brains is fascinating AND horrifying at the same time. As far as I know, humans are the only species that are overpopulating the planet (together with some domesticated [by humans!!] animals like pigeons…) http://e360.yale.edu/feature/the_world_at_7_billion_can_we_stop_growing_now/2426/.
You’ve probably heard about our brain’s ability to change and even generate new neurons – neuroplasticity and neurogenesis – totally fascinating and very promising for the field of mental health.http://shakeoffthegrind.com/productivity/how-to-use-your-brains-full-potential.
Wish you a wonderful Sunday! Heila
